Bluestone Christmas celebration spreads cheer to local charity

Over 150 guests gathered on Saturday, December 10 for the Bluestone community's inaugural Christmas celebration, with residents banding together to brighten the festive season for locals in need.

Bluestone residents enjoyed an evening of fine food and wine, live music and a visit from Santa while contributing generously with non-perishable items to a large hamper to be donated to Mount Barker based charity, Christian Care and Share.

Christian Care and Share has been in operation for nearly 30 years and works within the Mount Barker area to bring relief to those in need. Initiated by the Uniting Church, the charity is now interdenominational and supported by many different Christian churches in the Adelaide Hills, service groups, clubs, businesses and individuals.

Bluestone Community Development Officer Stephney Sproull said the party and donation drive was a huge success.

"Our intention was to support a charity working within the Mount Barker area. I spoke with Manager of Christian Care and Share, Judy McDermott, who suggested that food items would be the most welcome gifts," she said.

"It was an excellent turnout. We were spoilt with great weather, delicious local food and wine and a lovely Christmas atmosphere - and most importantly, we were touched by the generosity of the community to support people for whom Christmas can be a very hard time."

Guests enjoyed local Adelaide Hills' wines and delicious wood-fired pizza by David Tremonte and Virginia from Pizza Round, with the Mount Barker Primary School Choir performing Christmas classics.

Santa was a hit with the children, who were also invited to decorate the Christmas tree. Each child took home locally made Christmas tree biscuits from Cookie Mummas.

The evening concluded with a ceremonial turning on of the lights on the first Bluestone Mt Barker Christmas Tree.
