NewsBluestone launches Autumn FestivalMedia Release This February, the Bluestone community at Mount Barker is launching its inaugural Autumn Festival, a series of free events designed to bring the community together and offer visitors a taste for Hills living. On February 18, the Festival will begin with a ‘Meet the wine and cheese maker’ event, followed on the proceeding weekends by a BBQ cooking demonstration, Adelaide Hills chocolate tasting, and a discovery trail to some of the Adelaide Hills’ most iconic locations that will run throughout the season. “Bluestone holds community events every month that have become extremely popular both with residents and the broader Mount Barker community. The Autumn Festival is a continuation and an extension of this,” Bluestone Development Manager Chris Buttignol said. “The food and wine culture, history and natural beauty of the Hills is what helps makes Bluestone a desirable place to build a home and throughout Autumn we hope to offer visitors to our community a sense of the bigger picture. It’s an opportunity to showcase what life in the Adelaide Hills is like.” Guests will also be able to see what’s new at Bluestone. The highest selling new community in the Adelaide Hills is now home to over 400 residents and the Festival coincides with a series of new home and land releases at Bluestone. These include innovative house and land packages through Hickinbotham featuring low deposit and fixed price footings, as well as an option of no loan repayments until handover of the completed home. In addition, Rivergum is offering fixed price house and land packages at ‘The Outlook’ neighbourhood and there will be an upcoming release of reserve front lots from $149,000. Autumn Festival events are open to anyone and include:

Around 45 women from Mount Barker gathered at Bluestone's Land Sales Centre to raise vital funds for research, support and prevention programs into all cancers that affect women while taking the opportunity to kick up their heels. Guests were treated to an evening of Adelaide Hills champagne, wine and fine cheeses, home and beauty tips, as well as an important message on breast health and cancer prevention. Bluestone Community Development Officer Stephney Sproull said she was overwhelmed by the positive response from attendees, particularly given the event was first initiated by a group of Bluestone residents keen to support a cause with strong personal significance. “A few residents came to me a while ago saying they'd seen the Cancer Council was holding Girls Night In events and thought it would be great way for women in the area to get to know each other and contribute to a great cause in the process,” Stephney said. “Most women have either been affected themselves or know someone who's had women's cancer at some stage. Friday's turn out reflected that.
“It was such a great night. The guests weren't just from Bluestone - they were from Mt Barker and some had travelled from the city and surrounding Hills towns. “Everyone had a fantastic time. When people were leaving many asked when the next event would be!” Guest speaker for the evening was Sunset Lorentzon from Breast Logic, an Adelaide based organisation that provides radiation and pain free computer imaging breast scans for women of all ages and breast types. Nutritionist and chef Mel Haynes also spoke at the event, advising guests to increase their intake of antioxidant rich and colourful foods like blueberries, strawberries, chillies, dark green leafy vegetables, beetroot, cinammon and tumeric to reduce the risk of cancer. Together with Jessica Fabian from Thermomix, Mel offered nutritious cooking demonstrations and taste testings. This was complemented by a selection of fine local cheeses thanks to Woodside Cheese Wrights, wine tastings by Rosemary Baldasso from award-winning Protero Wines, and topped off with a delicious pink ribbon shaped cake made by Bec Evans from Sugar Cake Decorating. At the end of the night guests gathered outside to release pink and white balloons and mark a minute's silence in memory of those women who have lost the battle with cancer. The balloons were donated by Clown Around Party Shop. In total nearly 40 local businesses contributed to the cause, donating a range of items that became “mystery lady” gifts which were sold on the night to raise funds for Cancer Council. These businesses included Trims, Mt Barker Therapeutic Massage Centre, Our Little Bird Café, Spoilt Hair and Body, Spirit Spa Beauty, Farago, Mt Barker Clothing, Artiste Beauty Studio, Pages & More Bookshop, Chemmart Mt Barker, The Barker Hotel, The Adelaide Hills Magazine, Howard's Storage World, FrameArt, YMCA Mt Barker, Fasta Pasta Mt Barker, Dutton Automotive, Cabello Design 64, Fairleys Shoes, KNM Flowers, Sportspower, Clown Around Party Shop, Adelaide Hills Party Hire, Janesce, Philou Skin Rejuvenation and The Mustard Seed Restaurant. The event was possible thanks to major sponsors Bluestone Mt Barker, Protero Wines and Breast Logic based in Adelaide.
